lan:I’l be up-front about this as I hope you’d expect that Shopify would be - we are unable to provide advice to our merchants as to what they can or cannot sell. The answers to such questions can be highly nuanced and context-specific with a complex legal landscape.
I can provide some very general guidance:
All Shopify merchants must comply with Shopify’s Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). This includes complying with all applicable laws in the merchant’s jurisdiction and their customers’ jurisdiction(s).
It is often nuanced and context-specific to determine whether certain products and services comply with the laws applicable in a merchant’s jurisdiction, as well as your customers’ jurisdiction(s). For example, some products may be legal in one place, but illegal if shipped to another place. It’s impossible for Shopify to understand all of the context relevant to the merchant’s products, the customer’s jurisdiction, and the laws of every country where merchants and customers live.
For this reason, the legality of products is something that you will need to sort out outside of Shopify.
If you are using, or are intending to use, Shopify Payments you must also comply with the relevant Shopify Payments Terms of Service applicable to your jurisdiction.
